Singapore Travel Guide: Things to Do, Attractions & Where to Eat

Singapore is a city-state at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, made up of one main island and around 60 smaller ones. Its location and Changi Airport make it a common stopover between Europe, Asia and Australia. Most of the country is urban, but it also has nature reserves, reservoirs and coastal parks, including Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, the Southern Ridges and Pulau Ubin, a small island with a rural feel. Sentosa is the main resort island. The population is largely Chinese, Malay and Indian, and this mix shapes the food, festivals and religious sites. Johor Bahru in Malaysia is a short trip across the causeway.

Singapore travel FAQs

Is Singapore a city or a country?

Singapore is both: an independent city-state, so the city and the country cover the same area.

What is the climate like in Singapore?

Singapore is hot and humid all year, with frequent showers and thunderstorms. The northeast monsoon, from around December to early March, tends to bring more rain early on.

Can you visit other countries easily from Singapore?

Yes. Malaysia is reachable by road across the causeway, ferries run to the Indonesian islands of Batam and Bintan, and Changi Airport has flights across Asia.
