Restaurant
Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice
Bib Gourmand hawker stall at Maxwell Food Centre, serving Hainanese chicken rice with poached chicken, fragrant rice and house-made chilli since 1987.
A historic cast-iron market hall in the financial district, turned food centre, where Boon Tat Street becomes an open-air satay strip every evening.
Good to know
Lau Pa Sat occupies a Victorian cast-iron market pavilion in the middle of the Central Business District, and its octagonal hall now holds dozens of food stalls serving everything from noodles and curries to dim sum. It suits groups who all want something different, and the setting among glass towers is part of the appeal.
The real draw comes after dark, when the adjoining stretch of Boon Tat Street closes to traffic and turns into Satay Street, with smoking grills, sticks of chicken, mutton and prawn, and outdoor tables. Satay Street runs from 7pm on weekdays and from 3pm at weekends, until 3am. Telok Ayer and Raffles Place MRT stations are both within a few minutes' walk.
