Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice
Bib Gourmand hawker stall at Maxwell Food Centre, serving Hainanese chicken rice with poached chicken, fragrant rice and house-made chilli since 1987.
Family-run hawker stall on Crawford Lane, dating back to the 1930s, whose vinegar-laced bak chor mee earned one of the first Michelin stars for street food.
Good to know
Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle traces its origins to the 1930s and became world-famous in 2016, when the first MICHELIN Guide Singapore made it one of the first two street-food stalls anywhere to receive a star. Its speciality is bak chor mee: noodles tossed to order with black vinegar, chilli paste, minced pork, liver, meatballs and crisp lard.
Each bowl is assembled individually, so queues of an hour or more are common, especially at weekends. Arrive early, bring patience and order the soup or dry version according to taste; most regulars choose dry. The stall is in a coffee shop at the foot of an HDB block near the Kallang River, a short walk from Lavender MRT station.
