Why we recommend it

Komala Vilas opened its doors on Serangoon Road in 1947, when founder Murugiah Rajoo registered the business, and it remains one of Little India's best-known vegetarian restaurants. The focus is South Indian cooking: rice meals served on a banana leaf with a rotating set of curries, vegetables and condiments, alongside dosai and other tiffin dishes, plus North Indian favourites such as navratan korma and palak paneer.

Eating with your right hand is customary for banana-leaf meals, though cutlery is available. Lunch is the busiest time, so arrive a little before noon if you want a quick table. It sits in the heart of Little India, a few minutes from Little India MRT station and close to the Tekka Centre market.
