Restaurant
La Pergola
Heinz Beck's rooftop restaurant at the Rome Cavalieri was the first in the city to earn three Michelin stars and remains its only three-star table.
A family-run trattoria steps from the Pantheon since 1961, Armando serves classic Roman cooking under the Gargioli family's care.
Good to know
Armando Gargioli took over an old eating house beside the Pantheon in 1961 and turned it into a bottiglieria con cucina, and the Gargioli family still runs it today, with a sommelier in the family choosing the wines. The small dining room keeps a traditional feel, and the menu sticks to Roman cooking: pastas such as cacio e pepe and amatriciana, seasonal vegetables and hearty secondi.
Given its location a few metres from one of Rome's busiest monuments, it books up quickly, and reservations are taken online or by phone only; email requests are not accepted. It opens for lunch and for dinner on weekdays, but closes on Saturday evening and all day Sunday, so plan accordingly. It makes an easy lunch stop between the Pantheon and Piazza Navona.
Online through the restaurant's booking page or by phone on +39 06 6880 3034; booking requests by email are not considered.
On Saturday evening and all day Sunday.
