Restaurant
La Pergola

Dating back to 1860 by its own account, Piperno is a classic of the Ghetto known for carciofi alla giudia and fried salt cod.
Good to know
Piperno stands in a small piazza on Monte de' Cenci on the edge of the old Jewish Ghetto, and traces its history to 1860, with three generations at the helm. It is a reference point for Roman-Jewish cooking. Start with carciofi alla giudia, whole artichokes fried until crisp, and fillets of battered salt cod, then move on to hand-rolled pasta, coda alla vaccinara or tripe alla romana.
The atmosphere is traditional and service is formal in the old Roman style. Book through the website, where a credit card is needed to guarantee the table. Dinner runs Tuesday to Saturday, with lunch on Saturday and Sunday; it is closed on Mondays. Afterwards, stroll through the Ghetto to the Portico d'Ottavia and the Turtle Fountain.
