Restaurant
La Pergola
Heinz Beck's rooftop restaurant at the Rome Cavalieri was the first in the city to earn three Michelin stars and remains its only three-star table.
A small, no-reservations trattoria in the quieter eastern part of Trastevere, Da Enzo al 29 serves the full canon of Roman pastas and secondi.
Good to know
Da Enzo al 29 is a compact trattoria on Via dei Vascellari, away from the busiest lanes of Trastevere, and it has become one of the most sought-after tables in the district. The menu reads like a guide to Roman cooking: fried courgette flowers and carciofo alla giudia to start, then carbonara, gricia, amatriciana or cacio e pepe, followed by tripe, meatballs in sauce, coda alla vaccinara or grilled lamb chops.
There are no reservations and guests are seated in order of arrival, so queues form quickly. Arrive a little before opening for lunch at 12:00 or dinner at 18:30 to improve your chances. It is open Monday to Saturday. Save room for Enzo's tiramisù.
