Restaurant
Turk Fatih Tutak
Chef Fatih Tutak's Bomonti tasting-menu restaurant, holding two Michelin stars and a Green Star, reworking Turkish culinary traditions with modern technique.
A family-run lokanta founded in Fatih in 1950 and now in Nişantaşı, serving around thirty daily dishes including its namesake hünkar beğendi.
Good to know
Talip Ügümü opened the first Hünkar in Fatih in 1950 with just a handful of tables, and in 2000 the restaurant moved to Nişantaşı, where his sons still run it. It works in the lokanta tradition: a counter of ready-cooked dishes that changes with the seasons, alongside grills and mezes, drawing on Istanbul, Anatolian, Greek, Armenian and Circassian home cooking.
The dish to order is hünkar beğendi, braised lamb served on smoky aubergine purée, and in winter look for the quince stew. Point at what looks good from the display if the menu is unfamiliar. Lunchtime is busy with locals from the surrounding offices and shops, so arrive early or book for dinner.
