Why we recommend it

Hamdi occupies a multi-storey building on a lane just behind the Spice Bazaar, and its upper dining rooms and terrace look out over the Golden Horn towards Galata. The menu centres on kebabs and grilled meats, supported by mezes, salads and traditional desserts to finish.

It is large and well organised, which makes it handy for groups and families after a morning in the bazaars. Book ahead for a window or terrace table, especially around sunset, as these fill first. There is a second branch in Şişli, but the Eminönü original is the one to choose for the location and the view.
