Why we recommend it

Al Fanar has built its name on traditional Emirati cooking, and its Al Seef outlet, set in the heritage-style quarter on the banks of Dubai Creek, focuses on seafood. It is one of the easier places in the city for visitors to try dishes that rarely appear on hotel menus.

The signature is a seafood tray of fish, prawns and calamari over spiced rice, while machboos, a fragrant spiced rice with meat, chicken or fish, and jesheed, a dish of shredded shark with onion and spices, show the more traditional side of the menu. Finish with luqaimat, crisp dumplings drizzled with date syrup, and a cup of karak tea. The setting suits an early dinner after a walk along Al Seef. Hours can change during Ramadan and on public holidays.
