Why we recommend it

Via Carota is the West Village trattoria from chefs Rita Sodi and Jody Williams, who won the James Beard award for Best Chef in New York City in 2019. Opened in 2014 and named after a street in an Italian town where Sodi once lived, it has the feel of a country osteria transplanted to Grove Street.

The menu leans on seasonal vegetables, simple pastas and grilled meats, and the insalata verde has a loyal following. Reservations are available through Resy, though walk-ins are welcome, so arriving at opening time on a weekday is a good strategy. Expect to wait at peak hours.
