Restaurant
Katz’s Delicatessen
A Lower East Side institution since 1888, famous for hand-carved pastrami on rye, corned beef and its role in When Harry Met Sally.
Danny Meyer's Flatiron restaurant, open since 1994, pairs a seasonal tasting-menu Dining Room with a more casual, wood-grill-led front Tavern.
Good to know
Gramercy Tavern opened in 1994, founded by restaurateur Danny Meyer with chef Tom Colicchio, and it has become a New York standard for warm, polished hospitality. There are two distinct experiences under one roof: the Dining Room serves seasonal tasting menus at lunch and dinner, while the front Tavern offers an à la carte menu centred on a wood-burning grill.
The Tavern is the more relaxed and more affordable option for a first visit, and both rooms can be booked through the website. Reserve the Dining Room ahead, particularly for evenings. The restaurant is on East 20th Street, a few minutes' walk from Union Square and the Flatiron Building.
