Attraction
Schönbrunn Palace
The Habsburgs' 1,441-room summer palace in Hietzing, with state apartments, formal Baroque gardens, the Gloriette and the world's oldest working zoo in its grounds.
There are more things to do in Vienna than most visitors manage in a single trip, and the city rewards those who take it slowly. The former Habsburg capital is built around the Ringstrasse, the grand boulevard that encircles the old town, with the Hofburg, the State Opera, the Kunsthistorisches Museum and St. Stephen's Cathedral all within walking distance of each other. Beyond the Ring lie Schönbrunn Palace, the Belvedere with Klimt's The Kiss, the MuseumsQuartier and the Prater with its Giant Ferris Wheel, while vineyards and the Vienna Woods mark the northern edge of the city.
Vienna's food culture runs from Wiener Schnitzel, Tafelspitz and sausage stands to Michelin-starred tasting menus, and its traditional coffee houses are a way of life rather than a tourist attraction. Evenings bring opera, concerts at the Musikverein, jazz cellars and wine taverns in the outer districts. Three days covers the main palaces, museums and the old town, while four or five days leaves time for concerts, a Heuriger evening and a trip up the Kahlenberg.
