Vienna's best-known food market, a long strip of around 130 stands and small restaurants along the Wienzeile, with a flea market every Saturday morning.
View details — NaschmarktSome of the best experiences in Vienna happen away from the museum halls. The Naschmarkt, a long strip of food stalls and small restaurants along the Wienzeile, is the place for breakfast, lunch or a picnic, and on Saturday mornings its flea market draws collectors and bargain hunters. In the Hofburg, the Spanish Riding School lets you watch the Lipizzaner stallions either in a full performance or at their morning exercise, which is cheaper and more relaxed.
Music is part of everyday life here. A concert in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein, home of the Vienna Philharmonic, is a highlight of any visit, and guided tours show the building by day when you cannot attend a performance. For a change of pace, head north to the city's wine villages. Bus 38A from Heiligenstadt climbs to the Kahlenberg, where a terrace looks out over the whole city and the Danube, and walkers can follow the city hiking trail up through the vineyards instead. End the day at a Heuriger such as Mayer am Pfarrplatz, the wine tavern in a house where Beethoven once lived, with a glass of local white wine and food from the buffet. Book concerts and riding school tickets ahead, and keep a clear day free for the hills.
