A tiny cocktail bar designed by Adolf Loos in 1908, with mahogany, onyx, marble and mirrored walls that make the room seem far larger than it is.
View details — Loos American BarVienna's nightlife is varied rather than wild, with elegant bars, live music and a few serious clubs. The Loos American Bar, designed by Adolf Loos in 1908, is a tiny, mirrored room off Kärntner Straße serving classic cocktails until the early hours, and Das Loft, on the 18th floor of the SO/ Vienna tower by the Danube Canal, offers some of the best views in the city with a drink at sunset. Arrive early at Das Loft, as the bar does not take reservations.
Jazz has a strong following. Porgy & Bess presents concerts almost every night in a historic basement venue near Stephansplatz, with reserved seating, while Jazzland, opened in 1972 beneath the Ruprechtskirche, is the city's oldest jazz cellar and does not take bookings. For dancing, Flex occupies a former tunnel on the bank of the Danube Canal and is known for its sound and its mix of concerts and club nights, and the Volksgarten Club on the Ring opens from Thursday to Saturday from 23:00 for those aged 21 and over. The U-Bahn runs all night on Fridays and Saturdays, which makes getting home easy. Many bars around the old town, Schwedenplatz and the canal are good places to start the evening.
