Café
Tazza d’Oro
A historic coffee roaster and bar beside the Pantheon, La Casa del Caffè Tazza d'Oro dates from 1944 and is known for its coffee granita.
Founded in 1938 near the Pantheon, Sant'Eustachio roasts its beans over wood and is famous for its sweet, creamy Gran Caffè.
Good to know
Sant'Eustachio has served coffee in its small piazza between the Pantheon and Piazza Navona since 1938, and its blue and yellow sign is a familiar landmark in the centre. The bar keeps its original furnishings and still roasts its coffee using an old wood-fired roasting plant, a rarity in a modern city. The Ricci brothers have run it since 1999.
The drink to order is the Gran Caffè, made from a blend whose proportions are kept secret and served in a slightly larger cup, already sweetened and with a light, creamy texture; ask for it amaro if you prefer it unsweetened. Drink at the counter like the locals or take a seat outside. Bags of beans, organic and fair-trade products make good souvenirs.
