Restaurant
Katz’s Delicatessen
A Lower East Side institution since 1888, famous for hand-carved pastrami on rye, corned beef and its role in When Harry Met Sally.
Open on Chinatown's crooked Doyers Street since 1920, this vintage tea parlour serves dim sum made to order all day.
Good to know
Nom Wah Tea Parlor has been on Doyers Street, one of Chinatown's most atmospheric lanes, since 1920, moving from number 15 to number 13 in 1968. The retro interior of red booths, tiled floor and old signage makes it feel little changed, although the dim sum is ordered from a menu and cooked to order rather than wheeled round on trolleys.
Order a spread to share: shrimp dumplings, roast pork buns, turnip cakes and the fluffy egg rolls are favourites. It is open daily from 11am to 9pm, including major holidays. Arrive mid-afternoon on a weekday to avoid the longest waits for a table.
