Why we recommend it

St Paul's Cathedral, rebuilt by Sir Christopher Wren after the Great Fire of London, is crowned by one of the world's best-known domes. Sightseeing tickets cover the cathedral floor, the crypt and the dome galleries, including the Whispering Gallery and the outdoor viewing levels above.

The climb to the top galleries involves hundreds of steps, so leave energy for it and go on a clear day for the best views. Sightseeing runs Monday to Saturday; on Sundays the cathedral is open for worship, and services are free to attend at any time. Booking online is easiest, and opening times can change for events, so check the calendar before you go. There is no cloakroom and a strict bag size limit. St Paul's Underground station is just steps away.
