Best Cafés in Brussels (2026)

Café culture in Brussels is as much about sweet things as coffee. Waffles are a rite of passage, and Mokafé in the Royal Galleries of Saint-Hubert serves the light, crisp Brussels version with chocolate sauce on its covered terrace from early morning. Nearby, Maison Dandoy, the oldest biscuit maker in the city, has been making speculoos and other biscuits since 1829, and its gift boxes make excellent souvenirs.

Chocolate lovers should head uphill. Wittamer has been a pâtisserie and chocolate house on the Place du Grand Sablon since 1910, while Laurent Gerbaud runs a tea room on Rue Ravenstein where you can sit down to a 70 per cent hot chocolate or coffee with a ganache between museums. For coffee itself, MOK on Rue Antoine Dansaert is the city's best-known specialty roaster, with home-baked pastries and vegetarian breakfasts, and Aksum Coffee House in the galleries serves organic Ethiopian coffee at modest prices. Many cafés close in the early evening, so plan coffee and cake stops for the morning or afternoon.
