Museum of Islamic Art
I. M. Pei's limestone Museum of Islamic Art stands on its own peninsula off the Doha Corniche, with 1,400 years of art from three continents.
The best things to do in Doha mix heritage with bold modern architecture: the Museum of Islamic Art and the National Museum of Qatar on the Corniche, the lanes and Falcon Souq of Souq Waqif, and the seafront arts district of Katara. Qatar's capital wraps around a curved bay, with the old town and its souq at the southern end and the towers of West Bay to the north.
Most visitors divide their time between the historic centre around Souq Waqif and Msheireb Downtown Doha, the Corniche museums, West Bay and Katara, and the island districts of The Pearl and Lusail further north. Education City in the west adds Mathaf, Qatar National Library and the 3-2-1 sports museum. The food scene runs from Yemeni stews and Qatari breakfasts in the souq to Michelin-starred tasting menus, and alcohol is served only in licensed hotel venues. Three to four days covers the main sights, with an extra day for a desert safari to the Inland Sea or kayaking in the Al Thakira mangroves.

Three to four days covers Souq Waqif, the Museum of Islamic Art, the National Museum of Qatar, Katara and The Pearl; add a day for a desert safari to the Inland Sea or a mangrove kayaking trip.
Msheireb and Souq Waqif suit first-time visitors who want to walk to the souq and museums, West Bay has beach hotels and nightlife, Lusail and The Pearl are newer and quieter, and Education City is convenient for Mathaf and the national library.
The Doha Metro Red Line links Hamad International Airport with the city centre and West Bay, and taxis and ride-hailing apps take around 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic.
Hotels, alcohol and fine dining are expensive, but the Msheireb Museums and Mathaf are free, the souq and Corniche cost nothing to explore, and casual cafés and restaurants serving Gulf, Yemeni and South Asian food are good value.
Doha is generally considered very safe, with low street crime; respect local laws and customs, dress modestly in public places, and drink alcohol only in licensed venues.
