Good to know
Tian Tian has been serving Hainanese chicken rice at Maxwell Food Centre since 1987, and it holds a Bib Gourmand in the MICHELIN Guide Singapore. The formula is simple: silky poached chicken, rice cooked in chicken stock until fragrant, and three condiments of spicy chilli sauce, dark soy and minced ginger, which you mix to taste.
Expect a queue at lunchtime, when office workers from nearby Tanjong Pagar descend; mid-morning or mid-afternoon is calmer. Find a seat first and mark it with a packet of tissues, as locals do, then join the line. The stall closes on Mondays. Maxwell Food Centre is a short walk from Chinatown and Maxwell MRT stations and sits opposite the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple.
