Why we recommend it

Top of the Rock spreads across the 67th, 69th and open-air 70th floors of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Because it is a little north of the Empire State Building, it offers one of the best views of that tower, along with a sweeping outlook over Central Park to the north.

The entrance is on 50th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, and the lift reaches the decks in under a minute. Tickets are timed, so book your slot online, particularly for sunset. A free downloadable audio tour adds context, and the venue offers a weather guarantee if visibility is poor. It is open daily from 9am to 11pm.
