Thing to do
Top of the Rock
Three tiers of observation decks atop 30 Rockefeller Plaza give unobstructed views of Central Park and a front-on look at the Empire State Building.
The neon-lit junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue is the heart of the Theater District, home to the TKTS booth and the New Year's Eve ball drop.
Good to know
Times Square is where Broadway and Seventh Avenue cross in Midtown, and its stacked digital billboards make it the brightest, busiest few blocks in the city. Surrounding streets form the Theater District, home to most of the Broadway houses, so it is the natural place to begin a night at a show.
The TKTS booth at Broadway and 47th Street, beneath its red steps, sells same-day discounted theatre tickets. The square is at its most dramatic after dark. Keep an eye on bags in the crowds, and politely decline costumed characters unless you are happy to tip for a photo.
