Restaurant
Gaggan
Chef Gaggan Anand's theatrical tasting-menu restaurant, serving progressive Indian cuisine with an emoji menu, ranked third on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2026.
A celebrated shophouse kitchen where the goggle-wearing chef Jay Fai cooks crab omelettes and drunken noodles over charcoal, awarded a Michelin star in 2018.
Raan Jay Fai became world-famous when the first Michelin Guide Bangkok gave it a star, the only street-side restaurant to earn one in that edition. The chef, recognisable by her ski goggles, still works the charcoal-fired woks herself, turning out dishes at a pace that explains the long waits.
The crab omelette, a thick golden roll packed with crab meat, is the signature order and is priced well above typical street food. The drunken noodles with seafood, rat na and dry tom yum are also widely praised. The restaurant introduced a reservation system after the star brought crowds, so book in advance if you can, or expect a lengthy queue. It sits on Mahachai Road in the Pratu Phi area of the old town.
