Why we recommend it
Thipsamai has been frying pad thai on Mahachai Road for decades, and the open charcoal woks at the front, with cooks working in rapid rhythm, are part of the appeal. The menu is short and focused on variations of the national noodle dish, from a basic version to a vegetarian one.
The house speciality is the Superb Padthai, noodles cooked with shrimp oil and fresh prawns and then wrapped in a delicate egg parcel. Queues form in the evening, but turnover is quick. The restaurant is a few doors from Raan Jay Fai on the same road, and it is closed on Tuesdays.
