Restaurant
Dishoom Covent Garden
The original Dishoom, a Bombay-style café in Covent Garden serving breakfast, small plates, grills and curries from morning until late.
Fergus Henderson's influential Smithfield restaurant, founded in 1994 and known for nose-to-tail British cooking from a daily changing menu.
Good to know
St. JOHN opened in a former smokehouse near Smithfield Market in 1994 and its plain white dining room has influenced a generation of British chefs. The cooking, led from the start by Fergus Henderson, champions nose-to-tail eating: using the whole animal, with offal served alongside seasonal vegetables and simple puddings.
Roast bone marrow with parsley salad is the dish most associated with the restaurant, but the menu changes daily and is posted online each morning for lunch and late afternoon for supper. The bar at the front serves a shorter menu and is a good option without a booking. Reservations are taken online for lunch and supper; there is no supper service on Sundays. Farringdon and Barbican stations are each a few minutes' walk away.
