Restaurant
St. JOHN Smithfield
Fergus Henderson's influential Smithfield restaurant, founded in 1994 and known for nose-to-tail British cooking from a daily changing menu.
A small Soho Thai restaurant cooking over charcoal and in clay pots, with counter seating and dishes built on seasonal British produce.
Good to know
Kiln is a compact Soho restaurant where much of the cooking happens over charcoal and in clay pots, in full view of the counter. The menu draws on Thai cooking, especially grilling, curries, larb and skewers, and leans heavily on seasonal British produce, much of it from Cornwall.
Kiln does not take pre-booked reservations: guests drop in and are seated as space becomes available. If there is a wait, you can have a drink at the bar or leave a phone number and be messaged when your table is ready. Counter seats give the best view of the kitchen. Order several smaller dishes to share, and ask about the wines, which are offered by the glass. Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Circus stations are a short walk away.
