Why we recommend it

In the heart of the Pletzl, the historic Jewish quarter of the Marais, L'As du Fallafel has become a fixture of Rue des Rosiers. The order to get is the falafel pitta, piled with crisp falafel, fried aubergine, cabbage, hummus and tahini, best eaten standing in the street or on a nearby bench.

Queues are a regular sight at lunchtime, but the takeaway line moves quickly, and there is a small dining room if you prefer to sit. Plan around the Sabbath: the Paris tourist office lists it as closing early on Friday and closed all day Saturday, so Sunday to Thursday is the time to go.
