Why we recommend it

Laid out in the 17th century for Marie de' Medici around the Palais du Luxembourg, now the seat of the French Senate, this is the Left Bank's favourite garden. Formal terraces, statues of French queens, the Medici Fountain and a central basin where children sail model boats sit alongside an orchard collection, an apiary and a bandstand.

Grab one of the metal chairs and settle in: it is a natural break between the Latin Quarter and Saint-Germain. Main entrances are on Place Edmond Rostand, Place André Honnorat, Rue Guynemer and Rue de Vaugirard. Opening and closing times follow the seasons, so check the garden's practical information page before an early or late visit.
