Chatuchak Weekend Market
One of the world's largest weekend markets, with more than 15,000 stalls across 27 sections selling clothes, crafts, plants, antiques and street food.
Bangkok's Chinatown, a 1.5-kilometre stretch of gold shops, neon signs and evening street food stalls along Yaowarat Road.
Yaowarat Road runs for about a kilometre and a half through the heart of Bangkok's Chinese quarter, lined with gold traders, herbal medicine shops and old shophouses hung with neon signs. After dark the pavements fill with food carts and plastic stools, and the road becomes one of the city's busiest street food strips.
Look out for roast duck, noodle soups, oyster omelettes, grilled seafood and Chinese-style desserts, and follow the queues as a rough guide to quality. By day, explore the narrow lanes of Sampeng and Talat Noi and the shrines tucked between warehouses. MRT Wat Mangkon station drops you right in the centre, and evenings from around sunset are when the atmosphere is at its best.
