Oman Travel Guide: Things to Do, Attractions & Where to Eat

Oman is one of the most rewarding countries in the Arabian Peninsula to explore, known for its mountains, deserts, wadis and long coastline as much as for its forts and souqs. Muscat, the capital, combines the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and the Royal Opera House with the old port of Mutrah and the royal quarter of Old Muscat. Inland, Nizwa and Bahla are famous for their forts, Jebel Akhdar and Jebel Shams offer mountain scenery and hiking, and A'Sharqiyah Sands has some of the region's classic desert landscapes. Along the coast, Sur and Ras Al Jinz are known for dhow building and nesting turtles, while Salalah in the south turns green during the monsoon season. Musandam, in the far north, is known for its fjord-like inlets.
