Malaysia Travel Guide: Things to Do, Attractions & Where to Eat

Malaysia combines modern cities, colonial heritage, rainforest and tropical islands in one easy-to-travel country. Kuala Lumpur is the capital and main gateway, known for the Petronas Twin Towers, Batu Caves and an outstanding food scene. To the north, George Town on Penang island and the old port of Melaka are both UNESCO World Heritage cities famous for their shophouses and street food, while the Cameron Highlands offer cool tea plantations. Langkawi, the Perhentian Islands and Tioman are popular for beaches and diving. Across the South China Sea, the states of Sabah and Sarawak on Borneo are home to Mount Kinabalu, orangutans and some of the oldest rainforests in the world. Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous cultures give the country a rich mix of festivals, languages and cuisines.
