The famous Karaköy baklava shop, a single-branch business selling pistachio and walnut baklava, kadayıf, börek and Turkish delight to eat in or take away.
Good to know
Karaköy Güllüoğlu is a pilgrimage stop for anyone with a sweet tooth. Its single shop on Kemankeş Caddesi turns out tray after tray of baklava, from classic pistachio and walnut to hazelnut, almond, gluten-free and vegan versions, along with shredded-pastry kadayıf, börek and Turkish delight.
Order at the counter by the portion and eat at the tables inside, ideally with a glass of tea, or buy a box to take home; the shop also ships across Turkey and abroad, and delivers within Istanbul. Mornings are a good time to try a savoury börek before the afternoon dessert crowds arrive. It is a short walk from the Karaköy ferry terminal and tram stop.
