Why we recommend it

In the busy market streets of Kadıköy on the Asian side, Çiya Sofrası is the best known of a small cluster of Çiya restaurants run by Musa Dağdeviren, whose work collecting and reviving regional recipes from across Turkey has earned him international attention. Since 1998 the menu has changed daily with the season, so there is always something unfamiliar to try.

Expect stuffed vegetables, herby salads, stews that pair meat with fruit, such as lamb with quince, and unusual seasonal sherbets and desserts. Choose from the counter display and pay by weight or portion. Take the ferry across from Eminönü or Karaköy, then explore the market around it; the nearby Çiya Kebap focuses on grills.
