Waterfront park at Marina Bay home to the 8.6-metre Merlion statue, Singapore's half-lion, half-fish national symbol, facing Marina Bay Sands.
Good to know
The Merlion, a mythical creature with a lion's head and a fish's body, has been Singapore's emblem since the 1960s, and the 8.6-metre statue by sculptor Lim Nang Seng is the city's most photographed landmark. It was moved to its present spot at Merlion Park in 2002, giving it a clear view across Marina Bay to Marina Bay Sands and the ArtScience Museum.
It is free and open-air, so time your visit for early morning, when the crowds are light, or after dark, when the skyline is lit up. The promenade links easily to the Fullerton Hotel, the Esplanade and the riverside walk past the Asian Civilisations Museum. Raffles Place MRT station is the nearest stop.
