Why we recommend it

Superiority Burger began as a tiny counter and has grown into a much bigger diner space on Avenue A in the East Village. Run by former pastry chef Brooks Headley, it serves an entirely vegetarian menu that appeals as much to meat eaters as to vegetarians, with plenty of vegan options.

The namesake burger is the place to start, alongside seasonal vegetable sides, and the desserts reflect Headley's pastry background. It is relaxed and good value by Manhattan standards. Tables can be booked through Resy, which is worth doing for evenings and weekends, and the restaurant also takes group bookings.
