Restaurant
Katz’s Delicatessen
A Lower East Side institution since 1888, famous for hand-carved pastrami on rye, corned beef and its role in When Harry Met Sally.
Keith McNally's SoHo brasserie, open since 1997, serves French classics from breakfast to late supper in a buzzing, mirror-lined dining room.
Good to know
Balthazar opened in SoHo in 1997, and Keith McNally's recreation of a Parisian brasserie, with its red banquettes, antique mirrors and zinc bar, has been busy ever since. It serves from breakfast through supper every day, with brunch at weekends, and bread and pastries come from its own bakery.
The raw bar's seafood platters, steak frites, onion soup and the croque monsieur are dependable choices. Breakfast on a weekday is the easiest way to get a table without much notice, while weekend brunch and evenings book up. The restaurant is on Spring Street, close to the Spring Street and Prince Street subway stations.
