Thing to do
Mercat de la Boqueria
Barcelona's best-known food market, entered from La Rambla under a wrought-iron arch, packed with produce stalls, fishmongers and busy counter bars.
A historic hilltop amusement park on Tibidabo, the highest point of the Collserola ridge, combining vintage rides with sweeping views over Barcelona.
Good to know
Opened in the early 1900s, this is one of the oldest amusement parks still running in Europe, and it sits on the summit of Tibidabo next to the Sagrat Cor church. Its appeal is as much the setting as the rides: vintage attractions sit alongside newer ones, and the panoramic area looks out across the whole city to the sea.
It is particularly good for families with younger children. Opening days vary through the year, so check the calendar on the official site before travelling. The Tibidabo funicular climbs the final stretch to the park, and the journey up is part of the outing on a clear day.
