Good to know
Opened in the 1920s on royal land, Lumphini Park is the green lung of downtown Bangkok, covering around 57 hectares between Silom and the Sukhumvit fringe. Paths loop around an artificial lake where pedal boats drift past islands, while large water monitor lizards bask on the banks, unbothered by passers-by.
The park is at its liveliest in the early morning and early evening, when runners, tai chi groups and outdoor aerobics classes take over and the city pauses briefly for the national anthem. It is a pleasant place to walk off a big lunch or cool down in the shade between appointments. MRT Silom and Lumphini stations, and BTS Sala Daeng, are all close to the park gates.
