Hotel
Claridge’s
A Mayfair grande dame dating back to 1812, famed for its Art Deco interiors, afternoon tea and long association with royalty and celebrity.
A landmark luxury hotel on the Strand, open since 1889, with Thames views, the American Bar and the Gordon Ramsay Savoy Grill.
Good to know
The Savoy was built in 1889 alongside the Savoy Theatre, from which it takes its name, and it remains one of London's most famous hotels. Set on Savoy Court just off the Strand, it looks over the Thames towards the South Bank, a view Monet painted from the hotel in 1899.
Even without staying, the public spaces are worth a visit: the American Bar is among London's best-known cocktail bars, the Beaufort Wine Bar pours more than 120 wines by the glass, and afternoon tea is served in The Gallery with live piano. Guests have use of a naturally lit atrium pool, sauna, steam room and 24-hour gym. Book river-view rooms well ahead. Covent Garden, Charing Cross and Embankment stations are all close.
