Restaurant
St. JOHN Smithfield
Fergus Henderson's influential Smithfield restaurant, founded in 1994 and known for nose-to-tail British cooking from a daily changing menu.
A Farringdon dining room established in 1869, now serving contemporary British cooking that reflects its history as a working men's chop house.
Good to know
The Quality Chop House has been feeding Farringdon since 1869, and its original wooden booths and tiled floor still give the dining room a strong sense of history. Today the menu is contemporary, but the kitchen keeps faith with the site's meat-focused past and its long relationships with British suppliers.
Lunch is served from Tuesday to Sunday and dinner from Monday to Saturday, while Sunday is lunch only, making it a good choice for a long weekend meal. Book online or by phone, and check the menus page beforehand, as dishes change with the seasons. The wine list is a big part of the appeal. Farringdon station is a short walk, and Exmouth Market's cafés and bars are just around the corner.
