Good to know
The JW Marriott Hotel Lima stands on the Malecón de la Reserva, the clifftop promenade of Miraflores, and is one of the city's main international luxury hotels. Its position puts it close to the Larcomar entertainment centre and the Cathedral of Lima is a drive away, and the hotel lists ocean and city views among its room categories.
There is plenty to eat and drink without leaving the building. La Vista, which looks out over the Pacific, serves buffets for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea; the JW Market sells pastries and coffee from 07:00 to 19:00 every day; and the JW Lounge opens for dinner with a sushi bar, ceviche and Nikkei cooking, the blend of Japanese and Peruvian food that Lima is famous for. There is also a lobby café, and in summer a pool bar.
The outdoor pool is open seasonally, from early November to the end of April, so bear that in mind if a swim is important to you on a winter visit. The hotel spa and health club are designed for unwinding after a long day in Miraflores, and the fitness centre is open from 06:00 to 22:00 every day, with guests able to use it around the clock.
The location is the main selling point for many visitors. The malecón and the Parque del Amor, opened in 1993 with its mosaic walls of love poems, are on the doorstep, and paragliding and cycling are popular along the clifftop promenades; meanwhile Miraflores' restaurants are within easy reach, including Maido, Rafael and El Mercado. The hotel is about 21 kilometres from Jorge Chávez International Airport, so allow for traffic on arrival and departure. The historic centre, with the Cathedral, is a taxi ride away.
The hotel suits business travellers, families who want reliable facilities and anyone who likes the predictability of a large international brand. It is a good base for a short stay before flying on to Cusco, and the breakfast buffet at La Vista with its ocean outlook is a pleasant way to start the day. Contact details and reservations are on the Marriott website.
