Good to know
Origen Tostadores de Café is one of Lima's best-regarded specialty roasters and a good place to taste how far Peruvian coffee has come. The business opened in 2013 and works directly with coffee producers in several regions of Peru, with a strong focus on traceability and on the whole coffee value chain, from farm to cup. In 2025 it was ranked 69th in an international list of the world's 100 best coffee shops, one of five Peruvian cafés to make the list alongside Puku Puku and Coffee Busters in Lima and two cafés in Cusco. Because Origen buys directly from the farms it works with, the coffees it serves can be traced back to the people who grew them.
The café serves coffee from different regions of the country, so each visit can be a small tour of Peru's coffee map. Ask the baristas which origins are being brewed and how they differ; trying the same coffee as an espresso and as a filter brew is a good way to understand the roaster's style. Desserts are served alongside the coffee, which makes it a pleasant stop for an afternoon break.
Origen has two cafés in Lima. This one is on Calle Las Tiendas in the Limatambo area of Surquillo, and the other is on Avenida Bolívar in Pueblo Libre. The Pueblo Libre café is particularly handy if you are visiting Museo Larco, which is on the same avenue.
It suits coffee enthusiasts and anyone who wants to understand the work behind a cup. Because the business is a roaster first, it is also a good place to buy beans to take home, roasted with the same care that goes into the drinks served at the bar.
Opening hours are not published in a form we could confirm, and the official website does not allow automated checks, so look at the café's social media before you go. Allow around an hour if you want to taste more than one coffee. Combine a visit to the Pueblo Libre café with Museo Larco for a day of archaeology and coffee, or pair the Surquillo café with dinner in Miraflores.
