Good to know
Puku Puku is a homegrown Peruvian coffee brand that has grown into one of the most visible specialty coffee names in Lima. It describes itself as a 100 per cent Peruvian coffee shop, designed as a sustainable everyday space where people can take a break from city life, and it takes its name from a bird of the Andes; its slogan is We wake the world. In 2025 it was ranked 20th in an international list of the world's 100 best coffee shops, the highest of the five Peruvian cafés on the list.
The coffee is the focus. Puku Puku works directly with coffee-growing communities from the Amazonas region in the north to Puno in the south, and says it pays small farmers a fair, direct price. It concentrates on single-origin micro-lots from cloud forest growing areas and pays close attention to terroir, the climate and soil behind each coffee. Small lots are roasted in-house at its own roastery and sent fresh to each café, and beans are also sold to take home for anyone who wants to recreate the experience.
The business now has around ten cafés between Lima and Arequipa. The branch on Avenida Pardo y Aliaga in San Isidro has long been recommended as a cosy, modern space where you can work in peace, and Puku Puku cafés in general attract a mix of locals and visitors. Another branch is on Avenida Circunvalación Golf Los Inkas in Surco. Check the brand's website or social media for the branch closest to you.
It suits remote workers, coffee lovers and anyone staying in San Isidro or Miraflores who wants a dependable cup with a story behind it. Order a single-origin coffee as espresso or filter to taste the micro-lots at their best, and ask what is currently being roasted.
Opening hours vary by branch and are not published on the main website, so check before making a special trip. San Isidro is a short taxi ride from Miraflores, and a stop at Puku Puku combines well with lunch at Astrid y Gastón's Casa Moreyra or dinner at Chifa Titi, both in the same district.
