Why we recommend it

Fred's House is the seafood restaurant of Grupo Anderson's lagoon-side cluster in the Hotel Zone. It stands at kilometre 14.5 of Boulevard Kukulcán, overlooking the Nichupté lagoon, and describes itself as a seafood house and raw bar. Boats tie up alongside, a neon sign lights the entrance at night, and the decoration, furniture and colours are chosen to echo marine life.

The menu draws on seafood from around the world, and the group says Fred's is the only restaurant in Cancún to prepare lobster seven ways. The best-known dishes include lobster thermidor, sautéed with butter, onion, mushrooms and white wine in a Parmesan sauce and finished with mozzarella, and the mariscada, a grilled platter of Alaskan king crab, Caribbean lobster tail, octopus, fish fillet and shrimp. The grilled octopus comes marinated in salsa talla with potatoes, roasted peppers, rocket and smoked oil. There are also fresh ceviches and premium cuts of meat, and some dishes are made fully vegan, including the protein.

The cocktail list is worth exploring. The signature cocktails carry animal names: the Iguana mixes Don Julio Blanco tequila with citrus, agave honey, black salt and rosemary, the Shark combines Zacapa 23 rum with chai orgeat, pineapple and cardamom, and the Parrot is built on Tanqueray Ten gin, Campari, basil and peach.

The setting is the main attraction. Besides the main dining room and a terrace, Fred's has a set of private villas on a wooden deck at the water's edge, designed for candlelit dinners as the sun goes down over the lagoon. In all, the restaurant seats around 210 people, about 52 of them in the villas. Families are looked after too: Freddie's Kids Club is run by certified educators, which lets parents eat in peace.

Fred's suits couples marking a special occasion, families and seafood lovers who want a lively, polished room with a view. It holds an OpenTable Diners' Choice award for 2026. The restaurant opens daily from noon until midnight, and there is private and valet parking.

Book through the reservations page on the Fred's website, and ask for a villa if you are celebrating. Groups of ten or more can arrange set menus through Grupo Anderson's events team. Harry's, Porfirio's and Puerto Madero are all a short walk along the same stretch of the boulevard, between kilometres 14.1 and 14.2.
