Bar
Clube de Fado
Founded in 1995 by guitarist Mário Pacheco beside the cathedral, Clube de Fado serves a set Portuguese dinner with live fado every night.
A rooftop bar on the top floor of a multi-storey car park on Calçada do Combro, with wide views over the river and the 25 de Abril Bridge.
Good to know
Park is one of Lisbon's most popular rooftop bars, and also one of the most surprising, because it sits on the top floor of a multi-storey car park on Calçada do Combro, between the Chiado and Santa Catarina. Finding it is part of the experience: from the street you enter the car park building and make your way up to the top floor, where the terrace opens out over the rooftops.
The outlook is the main attraction. From the terrace you look over the roofs of Santa Catarina and Bica towards the river and the 25 de Abril Bridge. On a clear evening the sunset over the Tagus is the reason most people come, so the terrace fills up quickly in the hour before the sun goes down, particularly from spring to early autumn.
The bar serves cocktails, wine, beer and soft drinks, and the atmosphere is relaxed and informal. Seats go quickly on fine evenings, so do not count on a table if you arrive late. It suits groups of friends, couples and solo travellers who want a drink with a view rather than a formal cocktail bar. Prices are typical of a rooftop bar in a central location.
Opening hours vary through the year and are later towards the weekend, with an earlier close on Sundays, so check the current hours before you go, especially in winter, when the open-air terrace may close in bad weather. Arrive well before sunset to secure a seat, and bring a layer, as it can be windy at the top. The bar attracts a mixed crowd of locals and visitors. As it is an open-air venue at the top of a working car park, it is not the place for a formal night out, and comfortable shoes and casual clothes fit in best.
Park is a short walk from Largo de Camões, where tram 28 stops, and from the Baixa-Chiado metro station. The Miradouro de Santa Catarina, another sunset viewpoint, is a few minutes away, and the steep streets of Bica run downhill towards Cais do Sodré. Bairro Alto's bars are up the hill for later in the evening, and the restaurants of the Chiado and Santos are within walking distance.
