Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon
A five-star modernist landmark opened in 1959 above Eduardo VII Park, with a celebrated collection of mid-century Portuguese art and the Michelin-starred CURA.

Good to know
The Tivoli Avenida Liberdade is one of the best-known hotels on Lisbon's main boulevard, the tree-lined Avenida da Liberdade that runs from Restauradores up to the Marquês de Pombal roundabout. It is a large, full-service hotel with 264 rooms and suites, part of the Tivoli brand, and its central position between the old town and the business districts makes it a practical choice for both leisure and work trips.
Rooms range from standard doubles to suites, and some have been newly renovated, so it is worth checking which category you are booking. Many face the avenue or the city, and the upper floors have views across the rooftops. The hotel welcomes families and pets, which is less common among Lisbon's central hotels, and its meeting and event spaces mean it is often busy with conferences.
Two features stand out. The first is the SEEN Sky Bar on the roof, with views across the city skyline to the castle and the river, a popular spot for a drink at sunset that also attracts non-residents, so expect a lively scene at weekends. The second is the outdoor swimming pool, set in gardens behind the hotel, with a pool bar, an unusual amenity so close to the city centre and particularly welcome in summer. The hotel also has an Anantara spa and a fitness centre.
The Tivoli suits travellers who want a conventional large hotel with a full range of facilities in a central, flat location. Avenida da Liberdade is lined with international fashion boutiques, kiosk cafés and shaded promenades, and it is easy to walk downhill to Restauradores and Rossio in about fifteen minutes. The return journey is a gentle uphill walk, or a short metro hop. For quieter rooms, ask for one facing the rear of the building rather than the avenue.
The Avenida metro station, on the blue line, is right outside, and the blue line connects directly to Baixa-Chiado and Terreiro do Paço, so the old town is a few minutes away. Taxis to the airport usually take around twenty minutes outside rush hour. The Jardim do Torel viewpoint and the Príncipe Real district are within walking distance, although both involve a climb.
