Best Things to do in Reykjavik (2026)

Many of the best things to do in Reykjavik involve water. Icelanders treat geothermal pools as a social space, and joining them is one of the most authentic experiences in the city. Laugardalslaug, the largest pool in the country, is open from early morning until late, while Nauthólsvík Geothermal Beach lets you combine a dip in the sea with a hot tub on the shore. For a more luxurious soak, Sky Lagoon in neighbouring Kópavogur has an infinity edge facing the ocean and a seven-step bathing ritual, and the Blue Lagoon on the Reykjanes peninsula is an easy add-on to an airport transfer.

When the weather is poor, FlyOver Iceland in the Grandi harbour district offers a virtual flight across the country's landscapes. Book lagoon time slots in advance, especially at weekends, and check the Blue Lagoon's website before travelling, as volcanic activity on the peninsula has caused closures. Remember the Icelandic pool rule: shower thoroughly without a swimsuit before entering the water. Public pools are much cheaper than the lagoons and open to everyone, and the Reykjavik City Card includes entry to the city's pools. Bring a swimsuit and towel wherever you go, and protect your hair from the minerals in lagoon water.
