Attraction
Hallgrímskirkja
Reykjavik's landmark Lutheran church on Skólavörðuholt hill, designed by Guðjón Samúelsson, with a lift up the tower for views across the city and bay.
Iceland is a North Atlantic island of glaciers, volcanoes, waterfalls, black sand beaches and geothermal springs, with a population of under 400,000, most of whom live in and around Reykjavik. The capital is the gateway for nearly every visitor and the starting point for the Golden Circle, which links Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfall. The south coast leads past Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss to Vík and the glacier lagoon at Jökulsárlón, while the Ring Road circles the whole country, passing Akureyri in the north and Lake Mývatn. Summer brings the midnight sun and winter the northern lights.
