Best Things to do in Nice (2026)

Many of the best things to do in Nice involve walking and looking rather than queuing for tickets. The Cours Saleya flower and food market fills the long square of the old town from Tuesday to Sunday, with an antiques market on Mondays, and it is the natural starting point for a walk through the Baroque lanes of Vieux Nice, past palaces, chapels and squares such as Place Rossetti. On the far side of Castle Hill, Port Lympia has colourful pointu boats, ferries to Corsica and quays lined with restaurants, while the forest park of Mont Boron above it offers 11 kilometres of trails and wide views over the coast.

For an evening out, the Opéra Nice Côte d'Azur stages opera, concerts and ballet in an 1885 auditorium at the edge of the old town, and its family programme includes shows for young children. Plan the market for the morning, when the stalls are full, and the port and Mont Boron for the late afternoon, when the light is softer and the temperature lower. The city's heritage service runs guided walks of the old town, including tours in English, which add context to what you see. Wear comfortable shoes, as the old town is stepped and cobbled, and carry water in summer.
